Reggae music is one of those stalwart KS3 topics, but it still seems to be a subject where it is difficult to find relevant materials for the classroom that go into any real depth, so allowing you to feel confident about the subject without having to wade through numerous textbooks and websites.
I hope that this article has managed to strike the right balance: it goes into some depth about the background and musical characteristics of reggae, but even if you don’t share all of this information with your students, it should provide a solid foundation that enables you to feel confident about leading performance and composition tasks with some sense of stylistic awareness.
