SATS Shakespeare – Rhinegold Publishing

SATS Shakespeare

£14.95

The aim of this scheme is to introduce a range of practical drama techniques that will aid Year 9 students in the learning of Shakespeare, notably their understanding and connection of the SAT set texts for 2006. The range of activities within this scheme is designed to suit both the drama and non-drama specialist, and most activities can be adapted to take place in a studio or classroom environment. Although this scheme draws on a range of Shakespeare’s work, particular attention will be paid to:

  • Macbeth (key scenes: Act 2 Scenes 1 and 2, and Act 5 Scenes 3, 4 and 5)
  • Much Ado About Nothing (Act 3 Scene 2, Act 4 Scene 1 lines 1–163)
  • Richard III (Act 1 Scene 1 lines 1–122, Act 3 Scene 7 lines 94–end)

The structure of the scheme intends to allow students firstly to get in to Shakespeare by focusing on the elements of story, then to look at an understanding of language, followed by character, dramatic impact, and ending with themes and issues.

Learning objectives:

  • To give students confidence in approaching Shakespeare
  • To allow students to recognise the modern relevance of studying Shakespeare
  • To allow students to understand the stories and narrative of the SAT plays in a practical way
  • To allow students to understand characterisation through simple Stanislavskian techniques
  • To give students the skills to approach a Shakespearian script and break it down into manageable and accessible units
  • To allow students to understand and appreciate the language of Shakespeare
  • To allow students to recognise the dramatic impact and effect of key moments within the plays through practical exploration
  • To give students practical drama skills that they may apply independently to any written text
