Improving texture in GCSE compositions

Advice on how solo passages, doubling melodies, melody on the bottom, pedal notes and canon can extend GCSE compositions.

Most music teachers, I think, would say that texture is the element of music that causes the most difficulty both at GCSE and A level. Not that all the others are straightforward, but students often find it difficult to understand just what it is that they are meant to be listening for and commenting on when the question is about texture.
