Engaging teaching: GCSE set works (Edexcel)
Ideas for using Edexcel's GCSE set works as a springboard for broader learning.
Regardless of how well prepared you are, teaching the set works at GCSE level can be a challenge. Some teachers think that the best approach is to sit the students down for the first year and ‘teach’ them what they need to know, playing students the music and talking them through each extract with a PowerPoint presentation, whilst they make copious notes on scores and in their books. Once this technical detail is out of the way, they can concentrate on composing and performing in Year 11.
