Devising: Jekyll and Hyde
£14.95
Students are required to devise at every level in drama and theatre studies. This scheme is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. As a teacher, a good working knowledge of the plot is necessary, but the scheme is based more on the themes and ideas of the novel rather than the actual text. Therefore, it would not be necessary for students to have more knowledge than a brief plot summary.
The scheme’s main focus is the split personality displayed in Stevenson’s novel and how this can be used to create multi-faceted characters in a range of different situations. This would lend itself to helping students create drama that is thematic, where a theme is explored by a range of characters, rather than by simply creating a linear narrative. The timings for each session will vary depending on how your students respond.
