AQA AS set work: No. 104 in D (London), first and third movements
Haydn’s Symphony No. 104 in D (London), movements one and three, is the new AQA set work for AS level for section B of unit 1 MUSC1 Influences on Music, replacing Beethoven’s First Symphony.
This article will first look at the background to the two movements, and will then go on to explore their structure and Haydn’s use of melody, harmony, tonality, rhythm, texture and instrumentation.
