The classic story of Medea is a powerful and challenging piece about jealousy and revenge that has many modern resonances. The aim of this scheme is to take AS students through the requirements of Edexcel’s
Unit 1 using the board’s ten marking criteria, balancing theoretical understanding with practical exploration.
The first five areas – those assessed through writing – are outlined here, while ideas for assessing the five practical criteria are covered in practical exercises slotted in throughout the scheme as the play is studied, possibly at two-weekly intervals. Individual, paired work and small-group work cover the range of criteria.
