Pre-mask work

£3.45

Through this lesson, I aim to develop the effective use of physical skills needed to express emotions and characterisation when using a mask.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this lesson, all students will have learnt that:

  • They need to use their physical skills in order to express a character and emotion
  • When using a mask, body language, posture, movements and gesture must be exaggerated in order to express themselves to the audience
  • They can use their physical skills in order to express some emotion and characterisation to the audience
  • They can identify the use of their own and others’ physical skills in performance.

Most students will have learnt that they can:

  • Select and use a range of physical skills in order to create an appropriate expression of emotion or characterisation
  • Stay in role and keep a focused and fixed expression on their faces through most of the performance
  • Use their physical skills in order to express clear emotions and characterisation to the audience
  • Identify the use of their own and others’ physical skills in performance and discuss why they were used, the good points and points for improvement.

Some students will have learnt that they can:

  • Experiment with and select a range of physical skills in order to create an effective expression of emotion or characterisation, and are able to justify their selection
  • Stay completely focused throughout the performance
  • Effectively and clearly express the appropriate emotion and characterisation, using a range of focused and well-selected physical skills
  • Identify and evaluate their own and others’ use of physical skills, using appropriate drama vocabulary.
