Chamber theatre

This lesson lasts an hour but the starter and rehearsal time can be edited if needed. It draws on skills and enthusiasms that many students are equipped with already – the drive to tell a good story and tell it well, with some acting out and narration. Most students can access this make-believe form of performing to some extent.

However, it should also stretch more able or older students, asking them to consider the effect of the narration, and how they can make the narrator into a character too. Therefore, it is suitable across KS3 and KS4 levels. By way of resources it requires printed copies of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes.

Learning objectives

  • To stay in character while narrating a story
  • To comment on the effect of narration by characters
