Music for computer games

Listening, appraising, composing and performing music for computer games.

Simon Rattle makes a compelling argument for the accessibility of contemporary classical music and its impact on the general public by reminding us of how extensively it is used in film scores and how we absorb it subconsciously. This led me to think about the number of computer games that also have soundtracks.

I imagine that, in most schools as in mine, there is an avid cohort of gamers who themselves are immersed in this music day after day, responding to the moods it is trying to create for them without even realising it. I therefore had the idea to write this scheme of learning to make them more aware of what sophisticated listeners of music they are becoming through this experience and that this is a valuable starting point for composing some of their own.
