Background and analysis of the Edexcel A2 Applied Music Unit 6 'Music in Context' set works: Bach's Cantata No. 48, Bernstein's On the Waterfront Suite, and Tom McElvogue's Jig and New Irish Barndance.

In the Unit 6 paper, knowledge of the Applied Music works is tested in Section B, ‘Music in Context’. Candidates choose to answer two out of three questions, each of which is awarded 13 marks. This makes a total of 26 marks out of 90 for the paper (just under 30% of the total marks). Students have access to an unmarked copy of the anthology in the examination, which in total lasts two hours.
