This scheme of work consists of an original piece of drama intended to immerse participants in an enquiry into the meaning and value of ‘community’. Tableau, mime, thought-tracking, documentary drama, improvised dialogue and Forum Theatre are used to construct the imagined world and to explore the significance of key moments in the story. Some of the techniques characteristic of Philosophy for Children (P4C) are used to deepen thinking and encourage reflection.

This scheme could be used to introduce a variety of Process Drama techniques at KS3. It could be used as the focus for cross-curricular work as it covers aspects of PSHE/citizenship and provides a great stimulus for writing. The scheme covers many of the aims, learning outcomes and subject content statements laid out by Ofqual in the current GCSE Subject Criteria for Drama.
